🦋 IC Information
Character Name: Icarus
Age: Unknown (died some time ago - the form of his shade is a young adult, twenties or late teens)
Canon: Hades II
Canon Point: Mid-canon, around the same point as the Melinoë in this game. Chronos has been defeated at least once, Typhon's presence is known about, but the task is not complete. The relationship between Mel and Icarus has advanced enough that he has begun to visit the Crossroads again.
Character History: Wiki link
Canon Abilities: Icarus possesses no innate magickal or superhuman abilities, but he is an incredibly skilled craftsman, capable of creating powerful enhancements to the Nocturnal Arms, a group of six ancient magickal weapons forged by Night herself. These upgrades can enhance both their physical and magickal attributes. He also created his own wings and incendiary bombs, which he uses to attack Chronos's fleet in the Rift of Thessaly from the air.
Inventory: Wings (currently broken, but not unfixable)
🦋 Personality
- Has your character always believed in magic? Do they have something influencing their perspective on the supernatural/metaphysical/spiritual from their past? How do they feel about magic?
- If your character could ask for one wish, and it's going to be magically granted without any consequence, what will it be and why?
- What song would a siren sing to your character to lure them closer? Why?
- If there's one person your character would follow to another realm, who would it be and why? If there's no one, state that and explain why.
- If you'd like pixies to change one event in your character's life, what would it be and why?
- Autumn
- Winter
- Spring
Magick is less an object of faith and more of an indisputable fact of existence in Icarus's world. Indeed, he holds at least one witch in very high esteem indeed. And every time he sees her and looks at her left hand, he sees vivid visual proof of the power and danger that it holds.
Though he lacks the ability to use it himself, he still understands it as a power capable of affecting and being affected by mundane things, and is able to harness it through his own craft. As an object of study, it fascinates him. It is powerful, yet often terrible. He cannot wield or control it himself, but he can grasp it as a subject. But above all else, it pleases him greatly that he is able to increase Melinoë's power over it in elegant ways.
He thinks of it, in short, as a curious engineer would, albeit one with some painful firsthand experience.
He would wish for the same thing he's wished before - to be made whole and tangible again. There are a host of reasons he would wish for this, but really, there's only one that matters: he longs to touch Melinoë, his longtime friend whom he has loved for ages.
Oddly enough, however, this is not the one thing that would make him happiest. What would make him happiest is to finally feel useful - not just loved, but needed, and worthy of that love. However, this is something he's been working on himself, and does not need magick for.
What I would like to do, if this is alright with the mods, is to have him arrive in game as a tangible being again, but the price for that being removal from the place where he had been working on himself and making himself feel useful, and instead being bound to the court of the Fae's choosing. Indeed, he may find himself having to earn back his debt for this, Tom Nook style.
Icarus would prefer to avoid sirens, based on Melinoë's warnings and generally low opinion of Scylla and her literal band. As effective as her techniques tend to be on mortals, and as much as "I Am Gonna Claw (Out Your Eyes and Drown You to Death)" is an absolute banger, I've got something else in mind.
"Blackbird" by the Beatles would probably have quite an effect on him if a siren were to sing it. The social commentary angle of the song would be lost of him, of course, being a young man brought up a prisoner in a tower in ancient Crete, but the theme of broken things learning to fly and be free once more would truly resonate.
Melinoë, obviously. He would follow her anywhere. However, in the days after the accident in which she lost her arm for him, he would not have felt this way. His regrets weighed so heavily upon him that he fled the Crossroads, feeling that she would be better off without him.
If Icarus himself were answering this question, he would find it very hard to narrow it down to just one answer. In the game itself, he mentions to Melinoë that he has a literal list of things that he perhaps should have approached differently. First and most obviously, he would surely have made himself heed his father's advice on how high his wings were to be flown. Second, he would have dissuaded Mel from trying anything too rash regarding his tangibility, no matter how badly he wanted it. And there are others - the amount of time he spent seeking his father's approval, probably more failed engineering experiments than he can count, and many more.
But this is not what he needs. He needs to let these things go. The past is irretrievably gone. He has a present, and the ability to make so much of it if he chooses to. He has undeniable skills, and people who love him very much. Intellectually, he mostly recognizes this. In practice, he needs to work on it.
🦋 Fae Court
List your top three choices for your characters adoptive court. The mods will choose the one out of those three options that seems the most fitting based on your app.
Ability: Do you want your character to gain the ability of their court?
3) Yes, but they either have no ability of their own, or they refuse to trade theirs away; they will buy their court's ability on credit.
